Julien Colombier’s motifs are like samples played in a continuous loop, processed in layers and sub-layers and remastered ad infinitum. The black background acts as a bass setting the stage; the vibrations of the colours provide the rhythm and the features the tonality. His jungles, clouds, thunderbolts and geometric figures are, above all, pretexts for creating shapes, atmosphere and adding colour, which come to him through semi-mystical contemplations on both Nature and mundane, everyday life.
Departing from black background he draws from the light and not on the basis of shadows – opening up extraordinary, galvanising contrasts.The artist edition marks the release of Julien’s first, independent monography in his 20 year career and is comprised of 30 colourful reproductions of recent and very vibrant artwork.
